During both directions of movement, the workpiece is grounded. Another variant of surface grinding is creep feed grinding. It operates with high infeed and very low feed speed. The contact zone between the workpiece and the grinding wheel during this surface grinding variant is relatively large as opposed to the first variant, which somehow maximises a small contact zone.

Other variants of surface grinding that can be maximised by machining companies are side grinding, double side face grinding, surface grinding with circular feed movement, and side grinding with circular feed movement.

Surface grinding can also provide a smooth surface not only on metallic products but also on non-metallic ones. And since surface grinding machines can be operated either automatically or manually, the need for skilled operators is no longer mandatory.
